I picked up a new plan and a new phone last week, after 4 years on an older more expensive plan. The phone is an LG Rumor2 and like my previous phone, it has many similiar or better features. For example, my major grevience of not being able to make my ringtones louder has been fixed, however, I can no longer use custom ringtones I put on my memory card, blah. The phone was also free (with a 3 year contract), unlike my previous phone which costed $50, however, my previous phone came with a wireless headset, a car charger, a memory card, and an actual instruction book. This new phone comes with a wrath of new features, such as a tip calculator (no more arguing over tip because we’re dumb at math), a more stable photo camera, a sliding keyboard, a world clock and a few more bonuses, however, it does not have a videocamera, a videoplayer, or a quick and simple interface. The major benefit is its asthetic values, but theres always a catch, with beauty you ocassionally lose durability.

The bottom line is that I had always wanted to try a newer phone, or at least a touch screen phone, but those require expensive dataplans and come with sub-par battery life. I chose to stick with a $10 internet plan, making my bill no more than my previous one, which is under $40. In the end, I got serveral benefits and a few small inconvinences, but it doesn’t actually interfere with my ability to actually use it like a phone, which is what its main purpose is. My wish is that the battery warning could be a bit better, because my previous phone gave me about a half a days warning, but this phone gives me half of that time before it dies. I personally feel that the keys are a little small and some of the buttons are actually just a thick verticle line, making it hard to hit the call or end buttons in a multitasking situation.
